Winner of Great Dames Premiere Pitch Competition Announced
Among numerous compelling presentations, one stood out.
(Wilmington, Philadelphia, International) Great Dames Inc. announced the winner of its highly selective pitch competition during a celebration event at the Delaware Art Museum on Sept. 28, 2023.
Body Empowerment Project scored a substantial winner package for a nonprofit of its size, including a business mentor, a business services portfolio, and a $5,000 cash award. Established in 2021, the nonprofit helps empower youth to find body acceptance and self-worth. Co-founder Christina Miranda offered a powerful, well-researched presentation describing how the organization works to help prevent eating disorders in adolescents, specifically in populations lacking access to treatment and preventive care. Primarily, the group aims to reduce healthcare disparities and promote equitable access to a novel community health intervention.
“All of our competition finalists are emerging women leaders who deserve recognition for creating innovative solutions to critical issues,” says Great Dames President and CEO Sharon Kelly Hake. “The pitch by Body Empowerment Project was a standout. What really impressed the Dames was that it had already impacted over 400 underserved adolescents and developed noteworthy partnerships with the School District of Philadelphia and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Those types of affiliations are difficult to secure, but co-founders Christina Miranda and Amanda Moreno, both medical students, are extraordinarily passionate about equitable health care.”
The announcement closed out the special event that included the launch of the book “Great Dames: Women Sharing Their Power,” a collection of 52 stories written by the Dames.
